DC continue with their ‘Earth One’ re-envisionings of their classic characters.  These are presented in a hard cover format with a self contained volume.  This version of the DC universe was launched last year with the first volume of Superman: Year One.   Other characters, such as Batman, will follow.

I’m somewhat interested to understand how these now fit strategically in DC’s publishing plans given they’ve now just re-envisioned their whole core universe!  However, there’s always room for different interpretations and always room for great storytelling.

So, following on from the relatively successful and well received Superman: Earth One by J M Stratzynski, DC have released the cover for volume two in this series.

A release date is yet to be announced but it will likely be in the first half of 2012.

It’s also worth mentioning that in May 2012 DC will release Batman: Earth One vol.1 which is written by Geoff Johns and illustrated by Gary Frank.  Unsurprisingly, this first Earth One hit out for batman will focus on his journey to becoming the Dark Knight and his early years in the cowl and cape.  With all Johns’ contributions to the DC universe to date, I’ll be really interested to see this take on Bruce’s transition into the Bat.
