A steady month from Dark Horse, lots going on with in-flight Star Wars related series.  Only a couple of new releases I’ve chosen to highlight this month, but here is also a new B.P.R.D that could be worth you checking out, and some nice collected editions.

Don’t forget to keep checking the Dark Horse Presents anthology series.  The writer and artist line ups change from issue to issue.  While a pricier comic, there’s potentially a lot of bang for your buck, especially if your favourite writers/artists are on that issue.  The September issue  has contributions from Paul Chadwick, Geoff Darrow, Howard Chaykin, Evin Dorkin, Neal Adams and more.

Climb in saddle, check out the highlights below then ride on over the horizon to CBR and hitch a look at the full listings for Dark Horse’s September releases here.

ABE SAPIEN: THE DEVIL DOES NOT JEST #1 – Abe is one of Hellboy’s most popular supporting characters and makes for an interesting contrast to Hellboy.

And here he is, striking out in another 3 part mini-series of his own which will help fill in his earlier years.  I love the old, almost pulp-evoking styled covers for this series.  Check out both of them.  A macabre sounding story of curses and demonics, right up your ally if you enjoy Hellboy and B.P.R.D.

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER SEASON 9: FREEFALL #1 – As I mentioned in the June Previews overview, Joss Whedon and Buffy are back for Season 9, and only in comics!  Take that unbelieving TV studios!  In fact, over recent years, many less successful shows have found a new lease of life in our floppy favourites (Jericho), while many have launched from comics successfully such as Walking Dead.  Anyhow, while Buffy may have outlived her time on TV, the stories are proving ever popular, especially with Vampires just so darn tootin’ popular.

So this new season is all about a fresh start for Buffy, in San Francisco.  It will be interesting to see if what, if any, ramifications result from Buffy’s actions at the end of season 8.
